As Easter approaches, it's a wonderful time to connect with your children and create lasting memories. While Easter often brings to mind egg hunts and sweet treats, it's also a beautiful opportunity to pause and reflect on a deeper question: What do you truly want your kids to remember most about Easter?
At OCCLC, we believe in nurturing both joyful family traditions and a deep understanding of the foundational truth of Easter – the love, sacrifice, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. As the years pass, the specific details of egg hunts might fade, but the core message of hope and redemption can remain etched in their hearts. Engaging in activities that are both fun and meaningful is a powerful way to make this happen.
Here is a fun activity that you can use to help make this Easter special and point them to what truly matters:
Resurrection Rolls
This hands-on activity is a delicious way to tell the Easter story in a way that engages their senses. You'll need crescent rolls, marshmallows, melted butter, and cinnamon sugar.
Share the Story: Begin by reading an age-appropriate version of the Easter story from the Bible.
The Tomb: Spread out the crescent roll triangles, explaining they represent Jesus' tomb.
Preparation for Burial: Have your child roll a marshmallow in melted butter, then in the cinnamon sugar, explaining this symbolizes Jesus' body being prepared with spices.
Sealed Tomb: Place the marshmallow inside a crescent roll, wrap it completely, and pinch the edges to seal – like the sealed tomb.
Baking and Revelation: Bake according to the package directions. Once cooled, open a roll with your child – the marshmallow will be gone, just like Jesus' body!
As you celebrate this Easter with your children, we encourage you to consider what you want them to carry in their hearts forever.
Jesus, the Son of God, loves us unconditionally.
He willingly died for our redemption.
His resurrection offers us eternal hope.
If you're a parent of young children, the energy of egg hunts and family gatherings is a beautiful part of this season. Embrace those moments. Yet, as the years gently unfold, traditions may evolve. What will remain, the most important thing, is the foundation of faith you've built together.
